Delaware: Lenient liberal Judges Keep Highways Littered with Repeat Offender DWI Drivers: Gavin Coates Now Up to Third DWI
According to Rehoboth Beach Police Lt. Jaime Riddle, Gavin A. Coates, 48, of Oxford, Pa. was arrested Friday (09/14/18) evening for a third offense of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol after committing a traffic violation on Rehoboth Avenue.
Just after 9:00 pm a Rehoboth Beach Police officer observed Coates, who was operating a silver Toyota Camry, making an illegal turn at the intersection of Rehoboth Avenue and Second Street. The officer stopped Coates and upon making contact with him observed signs of intoxication. Coates was administered standardized field sobriety test and subsequently taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Coates was transported back to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department for further testing at which time officers determined that Coates had prior DUI related convictions.
Coates was arrested and charged with 1 count of felony third-offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and 1 count of failure to obey a traffic control device.
Coates was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $2100.00 secured bail.
