Casandra Hafford charged with DUI manslaughter in death of motorcyclist Michael Ballard 041314 Clearwater, Fla.

Clearwater, Florida — 2014-04-14 — In reference to the fatal accident Sunday night at Missouri Avenue and Belleair Road, here is updated information: Casandra Renita Hafford (DOB 12-6-66) was charged with DUI manslaughter. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and remains there this morning. She lives at 1944 Douglas Ave. in Clearwater. She was driving a 2001 Buick Century.
The motorcycle driver who was killed has been identified as Michael B. Ballard (DOB 3-27-1990). He lived at 1401 Laura St. in Clearwater. He was riding a 2007 Kawasaki.
The accident occurred at 9:37 p.m. as Hafford was turning east onto Belleair Road from Missouri Avenue. Ballard was northbound on Missouri Avenue when Hafford turned in front of him. He died at Morton Plant Hospital shortly after the crash.
Hafford exhibited signs of impairment at the scene and admitted she had been drinking alcohol before the crash.
The intersection was closed for about three hours as traffic homicide crews conducted their investigation.
