Doctor charged in fatal DUI crash

A South Florida doctor is behind bars for an alleged DUI crash that killed a pedestrian more than a year ago.
Dr. Eric Spivack, a cardiologist, made his first appearance in bond court Wednesday. Records show his practice is at Aventura Hospital and that’s where he was arrested Tuesday. ....MORE

An arrest report says Spivack, who is a cardiologist, was driving when he struck and killed 77-year-old Yakov Duboshinskiy, who was crossing the street.

Police said Spivack smelled of alcohol. A toxicology test later determined that Spivack had a blood-alcohol level of .087 percent, above the legal limit of .08, and had codeine in his system.
