Florida: she took the wheel and blew 2 stop signs, killed one, injured 3; now she faces prison for manslaughter


Tampa Police have charged Charlotte Virginia Sowards, 19, of Tampa, with the following charges in connection with a crash she is charged with causing last fall:  DUI Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, DUI with Serious Bodily Injury (x3), Reckless Driving with Serious Bodily Injury (x3), DUI with Personal Injury/Property Damage.
According to police reports, on November 20, 2010 at 9:37 p.m., Sowards was driving her 1997 Cadillac Seville West on Wood Street at twice the 25 mile per hour speed limit when she ran a stop sign at Edison Avenue and as she reached the intersection of El Portal Drive and West Wood Street, she ran a second stop sign hitting a 1994 Honda Civic.
The driver of the Civic, Jason Plummer, died at the scene and his four passengers were injured.
Sowards and the four passengers in the Honda Civic were taken to a hospital.
The suspect showed signs of impairment and her blood was taken at the hospital.
Her blood alcohol level was .074 six hours after the crash.

Victim 2: Jean Flores, W/M, 12/02/1992, 1714 Atkinson Street West, Tampa (has serious brain injury)
Victim 3: Alexandra Ceballos, W/F, 03/01/1994, 4540 Hanna Avenue West, Tampa (shattered pelvis)
Victim 4: Anthony Adams, W/M, 03/25/1988, 4713 Cresthill Drive, Tampa (head injury)
Victim 5: Daniella Campo, W/F, 05/27/1995, 8510 El Portal Drive, Tampa (contusion)
According to Tampa Police Public Information Officer Andrea Davis, a warrant was issued for Sowards and she turned herself into Orient Road Jail on May 5, 2011 at 4 p.m.
