Police say that on Sunday 10/09/16 at 0344 hours Tarpon Springs Police Department was notified via a 911 call from a citizen of a wrong-way driver on U.S. 19 in the area north of Klosterman Rd. traveling north in the southbound lanes.
The wrong way vehicle struck a car traveling south on U.S. 19 at Tookes Rd. in the #1
lane. The driver of this vehicle, identified as Jessica Ramirez (W/F 08/31/86), stated that she
observed the wrong way vehicle, later identified as a silver 2013 Chevrolet Cobalt (KY tag
896VLL) approaching her in the said lane. Ramirez took evasive action and drove to the right to
avoid a head-on collision. The front driver’s side of the Chevy struck the rear driver’s side
bumper of Ramirez’s vehicle, which was a 2006 Toyota Camry {FL CXYA60). The Chevy
continued northbound in the southbound lanes of travel after the crash. The damage to both
vehicles was minor and there were no injuries. Ramirez had one passenger, her husband Miguel
Ramirez.

19 at Tarpon Ave. after the hit and run crash. The Chevy was in lane #1. Cpl. Thornton turned
around and attempted to stop the vehicle using his emergency lights. The vehicle would not
stop. There was active southbound traffic approaching this location. Cpl. Thornton passed the
Chevy and used his police vehicle to stop the suspect to prevent a head-on collision. The vehicle
was stopped in front of 42678 U.S. 19.( Just north of Shell Pointe Rd.) The driver of the Chevy,
Anna Marie Sosa (W /F 07 /25/73) of 6700 150th Ave., #621, Clearwater, FL., was the lone
occupant of the vehicle and was arrested for DUI at 0413 hours. Sosa was also charged with
leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. She received four additional traffic
citations and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
