Florida: Three deputies jumped into White Trout Lake to search submerged car to no avail; LeRoy Henry dried out in jail on DUI charge

According to Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee, on February 17, 2017, just before 1:30 a.m., a deputy witnessed a dark sedan swerving in the area of Waters Avenue and Himes Avenue.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop at Humphrey Street and Himes Avenue when the vehicle fled. The deputy turned his lights off and did not pursue the vehicle, but continued north on Himes Avenue.

When the deputy reached the intersection of Busch Boulevard and Himes Avenue, two witnesses stated that they had just seen a vehicle crash into the lake.

A witness and three deputies immediately jumped into the lake to see if anyone was in the vehicle, but the vehicle was already too deep. The Dive Team was deployed and arrived quickly to search the vehicle. It was confirmed that no one was inside. A short time later, a female arrived on scene and said that she had received a call from her son stating he had just been involved in a crash at Busch Boulevard. and Himes Avenue. Deputies searched the area and located a black male that was soaking wet in the area of Sligh Avenue and Himes Avenue.
