FLORIDA: West Melbourne Police report Officer Joshua Perez-Lopez arrested for DUI by Orlando Police

West Melbourne Police Department is disappointed to report the arrest of Officer Joshua Perez-Lopez earlier this morning by the Orlando Police Department for DUI with property damage. Officer Perez-Lopez will be placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation by the Office of Professional Standards and Acting Chief Cordeau. The criminal investigation is being handled by the Orlando Police Department, and all questions pertaining to the investigation should be directed to their agency. In the interest of transparency, we chose to proactively share this information with the community we serve. We value your continued trust and support.

In part, his award reads:

During the second quarter of 2020, Officer Perez-Lopez proved to be an outstanding member of the West Melbourne Police Department. His actions have shown dedication to duty and a high level of professionalism while representing this agency.
One particular incident resulted in Officer Perez-Lopez being nominated for both a Unit Citation and a Certificate of Commendation. He was praised for his outstanding performance in apprehending four fraud suspects who were moving across the State of Florida committing counterfeit fraud. In the end, the suspects were found to have been involved in at least 40 similar cases. In another noteworthy incident, Officer Perez-Lopez was dispatched to a missing child call involving a 2-year-old. There was at least a 10-minute time-lapse of when the child was last seen. Officer Perez-Lopez quickly responded to the area, taking note of the child’s description. He located the child on an adjacent street and returned him unharmed to his frantic yet thankful parents. Officer Perez-Lopez received a Letter of Appreciation nomination for this incident.

Every single day Officer Perez-Lopez comes to work with a positive attitude and eager to work. He is extremely respectful to supervision, co-workers, and members of the public and always willing to assist others when needed. For his exemplary performance throughout this quarter, this recognition is well deserved. Congratulations!
