Jamarkus A. Mike charged with DUI death and reckless homicide of Carl Ogle

EDWARDSVILLE — A former Alton man is facing up to 14 years in prison after he was charged with causing a fatal accident in Wood River while allegedly under the influence of cocaine.

Jamarkus A. Mike, 25, was charged in the death of Carl E. Ogle on May 16, 2017. Mike, 25, most recently of Savannah, Tennessee, was charged with aggravated driving with any amount of controlled substance (cocaine) in blood or urine resulting in death. He was also charged with a similar count involving marijuana.

Mike was also charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence, one count for not possessing a driver’s license and another for operating a vehicle with no insurance. He also was charged with reckless homicide. His bail was set at $75,000. MORE

Carl Ogle killed by DUI cocaine driver Jamarkus Mike on May 23, 2017

ALTON — Carl Ogle, 70, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 23, 2017, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on December 3, 1946, in Alton, the son of the late Lester and Alice (Bowman) Ogle. Survivors include two sons: Jeff Ogle and his wife Nicki of Rosewood Heights, Kyle Ogle and his companion Whitney Williams of Rosewood Heights, two grandchildren: Derek Ogle, Emily Ogle, his granddog: Remi, four sisters and a brother-in-law: Wanda and Gary Bourland of Bethalto, Jean Ogle of Wood River, Marge Kirby of Bethalto, Alice Sinclair of Crossville, Tennessee, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carl retired in December 2016 from Western Wire Products in Fenton, Missouri, where he was employed as a machinist. He enjoyed watching sports, driving his Jeep, dog sitting, and tending to his plants. Carl was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Lester “Sonny” Ogle.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the funeral home. Pastor Martin Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military rites by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308 of Alton.

Memorials are suggested to the 5A’s or to the National Stroke Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
