(Nov. 4, 2012) — PETERSBURG — A Petersburg man was hospitalized and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Thursday night after crashing into a wooded area near Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site, according to the Illinois State Police.
John Kiper, 51, was driving his 1994 Chevy Silverado pickup west on the Athens Blacktop shortly before 8:30 p.m. Thursday when he didn’t stop a stop sign at Illinois Route 97 and drove about 150 feet into the woods, state police said.
