(Fishers, Indiana) – It may be weeks before the Hamilton County Coroner can make a positive identification of the woman killed by an alleged drunk driver who hit the woman’s car on Oct. 17, 2020. The reason for the delay was that the innocent victim was burned alive in her flaming wreck due to the crash and impact of the Mercedes operated by Dario Chagollan.
Fishers Police report that they investigated a fatal motor vehicle crash on 116th Street near Belle Plaine Blvd.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17th the Fishers Police Department responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a blue Mercedes passenger car and a white Toyota passenger car.
Police say that when officers arrived they observed both vehicles in the eastbound lanes of 116th Street. The Toyota was fully engulfed in flames.
The driver, of the Mercedes, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital by Paramedics from the Fishers Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Based on evidence gathered at the scene and witness statements the crash occurred when the Mercedes struck the rear of the Toyota. During the initial investigation, probable cause was established to believe the driver of the Mercedes was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
After receiving medical treatment, the suspect was transported to the Hamilton County Jail without incident.
The IndyStar reported: Hamilton County Coroner John Chalfin said an autopsy was planned for Monday afternoon. Chalfin said his office will need DNA or dental records before the woman can be positively identified, which may take several weeks.
