Porter County Sheriff’s Officers responded to a serious bodily injury crash on Saturday 11/5/16 at approximately 7:50pm in rural Jackson Township on US Hwy 6 and CR 550 E, involving a passenger car and motorcycle.
Initial investigation and witness statements show the 2005 blue Chevy Cobalt, driven by Rachel Dover of Clarksville Tennessee, was southbound on CR 550 East at US Hwy 6. A 1990 maroon Harley Sportster motorcycle, was westbound on US Hwy 6 approaching CR 550 Ea
A 1990 maroon Harley Sportster motorcycle, was westbound on US Hwy 6 approaching CR 550 East. Evidence at the scene and witnesses stated Dover pulled out in front of the motorcycle beginning her eastbound US Hwy 6 turn, striking the motorcycle head on. The driver of the motorcycle, a 68-year-old male from Chesterton who police report was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Porter Regional Hospital for head and foot injuries. T
The female passenger was also not wearing a helmet, say police. She was from Michigan City, was airlifted to Christ Advocate Hospital for serious head and leg injuries.
Nanette Howard, 55, was a passenger on the 1990 maroon Harley Sportster motorcycle about 7:50 p.m., traveling west on U.S. Highway 6 approaching County Road 550 East in Valparaiso, when the bike was struck head-on by a 2005 blue Chevrolet Cobalt, according to a statement from the Porter County sheriff’s office.
Toxicology results are pending, however, alcohol is believed to be a factor for both drivers.
Porter County Accident Reconstruction was called to the scene and are closing the roadway for approximately 3 hours for the crash investigation. Assisting at the scene were Liberty Township Fire Department, Westville Fire Department, Porter EMS, UCAN, Indiana State Highway and Joe’s Towing.
