A Topeka firefighter still drives a firetruck after accepting a diversion agreement in which he admitted to first-offense driving under the influence of alcohol.
But a city official says that could change after the state of Kansas holds an administrative hearing regarding his driver’s license status.
Fire Department apparatus operator Jacob Daniel Torrez and assistant Shawnee County district attorney Todd Love on Jan. 29 signed and reached a diversion agreement to resolve charges prosecutors had filed against Torrez of DUI, driving without vehicle registration and failure to wear a seat belt.
The agreement calls for the charges to be dismissed if Torrez successfully completes a diversion program by complying with provisions of the agreement over 12 months.
Torrez also is required under the agreement to pay fines, court costs and a surcharge totaling $623. ….MORE
