Kentucky State Police charged Alora Davila with DUI after killing Eric Payton in head-on crash
Smithfield, Ky. (May 25, 2017) – The Kentucky State Police at Post 5 Campbellsburg is investigating a fatal DUI collision in Henry County.
At approximately 3:30 pm Wednesday, May 24, 2017, Kentucky State Police Dispatchers received a 911 call reporting an injury accident on Lake Jericho Road in Smithfield.
Preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle operated by Alora Davila, 27 of Eminence, crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle head-on. The second vehicle was operated by Eric Payton, 34 of Louisville. Payton was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Henry County Coroner.
Davila was arrested at the scene and charged with; murder, DUI 1st offense aggravating circumstances, possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle, and failure to produce insurance card. Davila was lodged in the Carroll County Detention Center.
Troopers were assisted on scene by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County EMS, Lake Jericho Fire Department, New Castle Fire Department, and the Henry County Coroner’s Office. The collision remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Post 5.
Eric Steven Payton, 34, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
He was born June 12, 1982, in Louisville, the son of Danny and Paula (Hays) Payton.
In addition to his parents; he is also survived by his sister, Jana Payton Goldey; two nephews, Quintin and Christian and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A service to celebrate Eric’s life will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, in the chapel of Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave. Burial will follow at New Castle Cemetery, New Castle, KY. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
