Larry Brandon Maroney Jr Dead in Rollover; Police suspect DUI

DeSoto – Just after 3:00 p.m. today, Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash on LA 177 at Butler Road.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2012 Toyota pickup, driven by 25-year-old Larry Brandon Maroney Jr. of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, was traveling northbound on LA 177. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway, became airborne and overturned coming to rest on the passenger side in a wooded area.

Maroney was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeSoto Parish Coroner’s Office.

Excessive speed and impairment are suspected factors. A toxicology sample was taken from Maroney and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that always wearing a seat belt, avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and not driving while impaired can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2018, Troop G has investigated nine fatal crashes resulting in nine deaths.
