Louisiana: State Police charge Samuel Doherty III with DWI murder in death of Bryan Payne and Mickel L. Tetreault in head-on crash



LIVINGSTON LA. — UPDATE — 2013-08-11– According to the Louisiana State Police, shortly after 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2013, Samuel Doherty III was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Vehicular Homicide. The arrest came after toxicology results showed Doherty to have been under the influence of several controlled dangerous substances at the time of the crash. Doherty was booked into the Livingston Parish jail on the above charges.

UPDATE – At approximately 7:30 pm on July 28, 2013, Bryan Payne succumbed to injuries received in the crash. He was pronounced deceased by doctors at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. This crash remains under investigation, and charges are still pending.

Denham Springs – On Saturday, July 27, 2013, shortly before 9:00 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 64 (Magnolia Beach Rd.) west of LA Hwy 1028 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 20 year old Livingston resident Mickel L. Tetreault.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 28 year old Baton Rouge resident Samuel Doherty III was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on LA Hwy 64. At the same time, 22 year old Bryan Payne of Denham Springs was driving a 1997 Ford pickup truck eastbound on LA Hwy 64. For unknown reasons, Doherty’s Silverado crossed over the center line into the eastbound lane of travel and struck Payne’s vehicle head-on.

Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road, and always obey all traffic control devices.
