ANNAPOLIS, MD. — 2014-03-29  According to the Anne Arundel County Police at approximately 4:00 a.m., March 29, 2014, a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer, stopped to offer assistance to a disabled vehicle that was on St. Margaret’s Drive approximately 2 tenths of a mile north of Meadow Valley Drive.
For some reason, a confrontation ensued between the occupants of Mitsubishi and one of the male occupants of the disabled vehicle who was later identified as Nathan Dunn.
During this confrontation, Dunn, punched and/or kicked the Mitsubishi on its passenger side. In response to those actions, the driver of the Mitsubishi backed-up and struck Dunn with the rear of the vehicle. When the vehicle pulled away, Dunn grabbed onto the spoiler which caused him to be dragged for a short distance before falling to the roadway.
During the confrontation, an Anne Arundel County Patrol Officer pulled up to the collision scene as Dunn was walking away from Mitsubishi, which was going into reverse. The officer then observed the Mitsubishi back up and strike Dunn. The officer then activated his emergency equipment in an effort to stop the vehicle. The vehicle then accelerated eastbound away from the incident as the marked patrol car attempted to make a traffic stop.
After being pursued for approximately 1 mile, the vehicle lost control as it failed to negotiate the right-hand turn in the area of Old Mill Bottom Road South. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway as it rotated in a clockwise direction. After leaving the roadway it struck a tree on the left rear door. As a result of the tree impact it changed directions, rotating counterclockwise as it spun back out onto the roadway where it came to rest.
As a result of the impact, the rear seat passenger sustained extensive head injuries. He was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival.
Excessive speed and alcohol are both considered contributing factors in this collision.
The investigation into this incident is continuing. The Anne Arundel County Police Department is working closely with the State’s Attorney’s Office to determine if and what charges are warranted in this case. This remains an active investigation.
