UPDATE: On 8-30-14 at 6:20 PM, deputies responded to the area of Route 5 and Thompson’s Corner Road near the 84 Lumber in Mechanicsville, for a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a dump truck. The driver of the motorcycle, identified as Jose Luis Fuentes, 30, of Washington DC, was dead on the scene.

Members of the St. Mary’s County  Sheriff’s Department  Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the motorcycle, 2014 Harley Davidson, was traveling north on Route 5 when it struck the rear of a 1996 Ford dump truck being operated by Robert Dade of Mechanicsville. The dump truck had just turned left from Thompsons Corner Road onto Route 5 when the collision occurred. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected. No other injuries were reported.
At this time, speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors on the part of the driver of the motorcycle. Failure to yield right of way appears to be a contributing factor on the part of the driver of the dump truck. A commercial motor carrier inspection was completed on the dump truck.
Additional details will be released as they are developed.
