DWI HIT PARADE: Convicted drug dealer Meagan Terry arrested for DUI after rear-ending vehicle stopped for red light

SALISBURY, MD. – Being eager to reach the beach or some other Friday night destination was apparently on the mind of Meagan Ruth Terry, 34, of Linkwood, Md.  Perhaps if officials had kept her in prison where she belonged for selling drugs when convicted in 2016, she wouldn’t have picked a DUI.

Maryland State Police report that on June 14, 2019 at approximately 7:59 pm, troopers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack were dispatched to eastbound US Route 50 and the intersection of Sixty Foot Road where Terry had blasted into the rear of a 2019 BMW SUV operated by Anna Maria Marinucci, 30, of Chester, Md.

No one was injured, say police, when Terry’s 2013 Honda Accord hit the rear end of the sturdy BMW, but many people when hit from behind don’t really feel the effect of the impact for several days and may find long-term damage has resulted.

Through the investigation it was determined Terry failed to slow the Honda in time to avoid colliding with the rear of the BMW driven by Marinucci. The BMW had been stopped for a red traffic signal when it was struck by the Honda. No injuries were reported.

Police say that Terry was charged by Trooper Arment of being suspected of driving while impaired. Given a set of field sobriety tests, to add to the obvious test of failing to stop for a vehicle in front of her that was stopped for a red light on US Rt. 50, Terry failed those tests, say police and was cuffed and stuffed in police cruiser for processing and then released to a sober driver.

Terry entered a guilty plea to felony drug distribution, something more than pot, such as heroin or cocaine, in Dorchester County Circuit Court on June 6, 2016. Maryland State Police Special Operations had arrested her on Oct. 6, 2015, when she provided an address of Maces Lane in Cambridge when she was booked. The States Attorney then filed a Criminal Information on the drug dealing charges.

In a plea deal with the Dorchester County States Attorney William Jones, Meagan Ruth Terry was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Due to the magical powers vested in the Alice in Wonderland Maryland Judiciary, Terry had all but eight days of her sentence suspended.  Such a drastic reduction indicated that perhaps she was sentenced to serve time working as a personal assistant to a Judge in his chambers as took place in the case of a DWI offender assigned to the chambers of District Court Judge Larry Holtz of Charles County.  Terry could have dropped the dime on competing drug dealers.  Whatever the circumstances, there are plenty of other drug dealers who would have appreciated such a consideration from the States Attorney. Terry also got credit for eight days of time served, meaning she walked out of court that day as free as a canary, even if she sang like one. The five years of probation may mean that she can now see her backup time backup and she’ll have to call Rotor-Rooter.
