Maryland: double-fatal on Rt. 301 as southbound driver slammed head-on when traveling in northbound lanes

DOUBLE FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: any bets on whether booze was involved in this fatal cruise?

BEL ALTON, MD. According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, on April 7 at 4:30 a.m., officers responded to the 9100 block of Crain Highway in Bel Alton for the report of a car crash. A preliminary investigation showed the driver of a Hyundai was traveling south in the north bound lanes of Crain Highway when she struck a Dodge Caravan head-on which was heading north. The driver of the Caravan, a 32-year-old male, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 22-year-old female, was ejected from her car. She was transported to Civista Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

At this point, it is unclear why the driver of the Hyundai was traveling on the wrong side of the highway. Cpl. B. Saunders of the CCSO Traffic Operations Unit is investigating. Names of both drivers will be released once next of kin has been notified.
This story will be updated when the names of the dead are released as well as whether alcohol was involved.
