Halloween horror leaves two dead and DUI driver Catherine Lyon behind bars facing felony homicide charges

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, MD. — Two people operating a tandem bicycle in Chesapeake Beach were run down and killed by a drunk driver, reports Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans.

The police report that on October 31, 2015, at 2:57 p.m. , deputies responded to the area of Tobacco Rd and Tobacco Lane, Chesapeake Beach in Calvert County, Maryland about a crash involving a motor vehicle and bicyclists.

Police report that Lyon at first attempted to pedal a fantasy that she was driving along with she saw these two people in trouble on the side of the road. Then she admitted to having had a few cocktails. Before long, she was behind bars. Police said the two victims were John Henrik Fauerby, 64, and Lynne Frances Rosenbusch, 58, both of Clarksburg, Md.

They were operating a tandem bicycle northbound on Tobacco Rd. A 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, being operated by Catherine Frances Lyon, 62, of 4065 Weeping Willow Lane, Huntingtown, Md., was also traveling northbound on Tobacco Rd. The Jeep came up from behind the bicycle and struck it in the rear. As a result of the collision, both Fauerby and Rosenbusch were ejected from the bicycle. Due to the injuries from the collision, Rosenbusch was pronounced deceased on the scene by medical personnel. Fauerby was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police say that Lyon was operating the Jeep under the influence of alcohol. Lyon was arrested and charged with multiple traffic and criminal charges including Driving under the Influence and Homicide by Motor Vehicle While under the Influence.  Lyon was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center to await a hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

NBC 4 News in Washington, D.C. reported that Rosenbusch’s sister, Arlene Rosenbusch, said Lynn Rosenbusch was so badly injured authorities had a hard time identifying her.

“They couldn’t tell it was her until they saw her I.D.,” Arlene Rosenbusch said, adding that her sister and brother-in-law were “a special couple devoted to each other.”

Corporal Thomas Phelps and other members of the Crash Reconstruction Team are conducting an investigation of the collision.  Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Cpl. Phelps at 410-535-2800.

Lyon was charged with four counts of negligent homicide under the influence.  She was jailed on Oct. 31, 2015 and released from jail on Nov. 1, 2015 on $200,000 property bond. She appears in court

On Oct. 23, 2014, Lyon was charged with assault, intoxicated endangerment and disorderly conduct in District Court for Calvert County. With attorney Thomas Axley representing her in a plea deal with the Calvert County States Attorney on Dec. 29, 2014, all charges were put on the Stet Docket with no fine and no time.

WUSA9 News reported Lyon’s blood alcohol level was .12.
