Queen Anne’s County Sheriff Gary Hofmann reports DWI arrests
DWI driver Christopher Thomas Giles passed police cruiser before swerving across highway
KENT NARROWS, MD. — Queen Anne’s Gary Hofmann reports that Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Brad Martz was on patrol on Oct. 21, 2016, at 1:00 am when saw a vehicle approaching him on Rt. 50 near Kent Narrows while westbound at a high rate of speed, passing the patrol car and then swerving across several lanes. The red pickup was then stopped and the driver identified as Christopher Thomas Giles, 25, of Eastport, Md.
A strong odor of alcohol was noted coming from the vehicle, beer on the passenger floorboard and several indicators (slurred speech–glassy eyes) that the driver had been drinking.
Giles was asked to attempt several standardized field sobriety tasks. Giles attempted the tasks and eventually stated, “it’s no point”.
He was placed under arrest for DWI, transported to Centreville and later released to a sober driver.
