Listening to prosecutors and the families of the men who died, Diana Carrillo couldn’t believe they were talking about her friend and co-worker, Alejandro Roman.
Roman, 25, received two 10-year jail terms May 18, with eight of those years suspended, for killing two 26-year-old Silver Spring friends in October while driving drunk on Rockville Pike.
Carrillo said she sat through the May 18 hearing mournfully, listening to the families of the men, Adam Hosinski and Rory Weichbrod, talk to the judge about it was like to lose a loved one to a drunk driver, at one point calling him a “murderer” and a “monster.” They asked the judge to give him the maximum sentence allowed by law 10 years per count of manslaughter by vehicle.
“Roman has no regard for life at all,” Kathy Weichbrod, Rory’s mother, said at the hearing. “If he had any regard for life he wouldn’t be here trying to stay out of prison.”
More than 200 people wrote letters to the court to talk about how the two men’s death had affected their lives……MORE
