Maryland: Knothead’s Great Adventure – Robert Damon Bernhard returned to scene to pick up his DUI award

Robert Damon Bernhard, 20, of 915 Edgewood Road, Edgewater, Md. DUI crash and fled

EDGEWATER, MD. — Anne Arundel County Police report that on August 5, 2014, at approximately 1:48 a.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the Mayo Office Building located in the 600 block of Central Avenue in Edgewater for a vehicle that struck the building. The caller stated that a red Toyota four door vehicle just struck the building and the driver ultimately entered into another vehicle and left the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a badly damaged vehicle as well as damage to the building. The vehicle was unoccupied. The immediate area was canvassed, but the driver was not located.

The property owner was contacted and responded to the scene. A short time later, the suspect returned to the scene and it was learned that he had been driving the car under the influence of alcohol when it crashed into the building. On scene officers detected the odor of an alcohol emanating from the operator’s breath and noticed that his eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred.

The officers then conducted a series of field sobriety tests on the operator, including requests to maintain his balance, which he performed poorly on. The vehicle was towed and the suspect was transported to Southern District. The suspect was charged with DUI and failure to remain at the scene of a property damage accident.
