Yvonne Loree Avaritt lost control and hit tree, police suspect alcohol in crash that killed Louis Romanell

Maryland State Police report that on Friday, July 28, 2017, at approximately 2307 hours, troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack responded to a fatal motor collision at Taneytown Pike east of Simmons Rd.

Police say that their preliminary investigation revealed Vehicle 1, a 2015 Chrysler 200 was traveling eastbound on Taneytown Pike in the 11000 block. The operator, Yvonne Loree Avaritt, lost control of Vehicle #1 which began to spin. Vehicle #1 exited the roadway on the westbound side. The passenger side of Vehicle #1 struck a standing tree. There also was a passenger, Louis Stephen Romanell, in Vehicle #1.

Initial investigation revealed that neither Avaritt nor Romanell were wearing their seatbelt.

Police say that Avaritt is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol. Avaritt was transported to Sinai Hospital by ground for treatment. Romanell was pronounced deceased on scene.
