MANSFIELD, Mass. (WPRI) — A Norton man accused of causing a deadly crash back in April is now facing more serious charges.

Nicholas Salvo, 23, was indicted on a charge of manslaughter by motor vehicle, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.

Police said Salvo was speeding when he ran a red light and crashed into another car on Route 140 in Mansfield.

The driver of the other car, 63-year-old David Munise of Raynham, was later pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. ….MORE

Norton Man Arrested in Mansfield Fatal Car Crash

On Friday, April 25 at approximately 11:57 PM, Mansfield Police and Fire responded to Rte. 140 NB and Norfolk St. for a reported 2 car motor vehicle crash with serious injuries. Upon arrival it was determined that the two vehicles each contained one occupant. Fire Department personnel were forced to extricate a 63 year old Raynham man from his vehicle. He was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro where he was pronounced dead. The victims name is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The operator of the second vehicle, Nicholas G. Salvo, 23, of Norton, MA was placed under arrest and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital via Mansfield ambulance.

Preliminary investigation indicates Salvo was travelling SB on Rt. 140 approaching the intersection at Norfolk St. at a high rate of speed. Witnesses, including an off-duty Mansfield Firefighter, indicated the second vehicle was headed NB on Rt. 140 turning left onto Norfolk St. with a green light, when Salvo ran the red light, crashing into the second vehicle. Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and representatives of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office are assisting the Mansfield Police in the ongoing investigation.

Salvo was charged with motor vehicle homicide while OUI and reckless operation, speeding, fail to stop for a red light and marked lanes violation. Upon release from Rhode Island Hospital, he was transported back to Mansfield Police Department and bail was set at $10,000. Salvo will be arraigned in Attleboro District Court on Monday, April 28.
