Troopers Arrest Repeat Drugged Driver After Pursuit on Route 95

LEXINGTON, MASS. – Massachusetts State Police report that Troopers arrested a repeat drugged driver on Jan. 4, 2019, after receiving a report of him weaving erratically across multiple lanes of Route 95 southbound. Troopers located the suspect driving  erratically, and when they tried to stop him he led them on a pursuit with a passenger and a dog in his truck.

At 4:24 p.m. a witness reported that a white Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling slowly and erratically, and was “all over the road,” on Route 95 southbound in the Stoneham area. The truck almost hit several other vehicles.

Trooper Daniel Katz, on patrol out of the Danvers Barracks, located the suspect driving erratically south of Exit 32 in Burlington. Trooper Katz attempted to stop the 2016 Dodge RAM 1500 but the suspect refused to stop and a pursuit was authorized by Troop A Headquarters.

Another Trooper deployed a stop sticks tire deflation device in front of the fleeing truck in the area of Exit 29. Three of the truck’s four tires struck the stop sticks and he subsequently came to a stop on 95 in Lexington

The operator was taken into custody. Investigation by Troopers Katz and Daniel Hinchion determined the suspect, DANIEL GENTILE, 58, of Dracut, was under the influence of narcotics. GENTILE was uncooperative and tried to resist as Troopers placed him in custody.

GENTILE is charged with OUI Drugs-3rd Offense; Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Resisting Arrest; Failure to Stop for Police; and Marked Lanes Violation. He was booked at the State Police-Danvers Barracks and is currently being held in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.

A dog in the truck was taken to an area humane society. An adult female passenger in the truck was suspected of also being under the influence of narcotics and was transported to an area hospital.
