ST. PAUL, Minn. – Preliminary figures from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety show more than 500 motorists were arrested on DWI charges between 5:30 p.m. on July 3 through July 7.
According to numbers released Monday, 225 of the arrests occurred between July 3-4. The remaining 335 took place from July 5-7.
DWI patrols were increased in the Twin Cities area during the holiday period because July 4 is historically the state’s deadliest day of the year on the roads, with 19 deaths from 2008 to 2012. This year, three motorcyclists were killed in two separate crashes.
