Las Vegas DUI driver Luis Jimenez blew stop sign and killed 80-year-old driver in T-bone crash

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — Las Vegas Metro Police report that on May 22, 2017, at approximately 7:06 pm, a fatal traffic collision occurred at the intersection of North Mt. Hood

Street and East Carey Avenue. Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated a Honda Accord was traveling west on Carey Avenue when it failed to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection with Mt Hood Street.

The front of the Honda impacted the left side of a southbound Ford Mustang as it crossed the intersection. Emergency medical services responded to the collision and the operator of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner’s office identified him as Joseph Wolford Sr. of Las Vegas and determined the death was an accident.

Luis Jimenez, 24, of Las Vegas, Nev., the operator of the Honda, was transported to UMC Trauma with minor injuries and was subsequently arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.

This is the 56th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2017. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
