READINGTON TWP. — A man has been charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving after he was involved in a 2-car crash that claimed the life of a 72-year-old Palmer Township, Pa. man Friday, June 3 around 3:30 a.m.
Adolf Smith was driving in the center lane on Route 78 eastbound when the rear right corner of his 2006 Buick was struck by the front left corner of a 2011 Ford Escape driven by Ryan Ricketts, 32, of Wheatley Heights, N.Y., said State Police spokesman Stephen Jones.
Police believe Ricketts was driving “at an excessive rate of speed,” Jones said.
Both vehicles spun out of control near milepost 23.5, and Smith’s car ran off the road to the left, struck a tree in the center median and overturned. Although he was wearing a seatbelt, Smith was ejected from his car and died before emergency medical personnel arrived, Jones said. ….MORE
