SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY — 12/10/2015 — Sparta Police report that on 11-26-2015 at approximately 5:51 PM, patrols were dispatched to the intersection of Woodport Road and Pine Cone Lane for the report of a male passed out in his vehicle in the lane of travel.
Before patrol’s arrival, additional callers reported that the individual had awakened and continued on Woodport Road towards the center of town. Callers also advised that the vehicle was a silver Kia. Cpl. Brian Hassloch observed a vehicle fitting this description on Woodport Road near Mohawk Avenue.
Cpl. Hassloch observed this vehicle cross over the double yellow lines as it proceeded on to Main Street.
After stopping the vehicle and speaking to the driver, 53-year-old Richard Manzini from Clifton, Cpl. Hassloch determined he may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A series of Field Sobriety Tests were administered which Manzini failed.
He was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to Headquarters for processing and breath testing. Manzini was charged with DWI, Failure To Keep Right and Careless Driving. He was also charged criminally with Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia after a marijuana smoking pipe was discovered upon his arrest. He was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.
