SMALLWOOD, N.Y. – Two men are charged with driving while intoxicated after one was stopped and the other was called to pick up his friend and he was also drunk, police said.

On Wednesday at about 4 a.m., a town of Bethel constable attempted to stop a car on the Pine Grove Road in Smallwood for a traffic violation, police said. The constable chased the vehicle a short distance until it came to a stop on Mitchell Road, police said.

A sheriff’s deputy came to the scene and helped place Philip Schwartz, 32, of Bogota, N.J., under arrest, police said. Schwartz was taken to the Sheriff’s office in Monticello, where he was charged with aggravated DWI and failure to obey a law enforcement officer, police said.
