North Carolina: Man who ran from scene of crash and escaped the grim reaper in February now dies when his drinking buddy hits a tree

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Police say a teenager was killed in a wreck and an underage driver is charged with drinking and driving in the incident.
The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday morning when a car went off the road and into a tree along the 3700 block of Back Creek Church Road.
Police say the driver, whose name hasn’t been released yet, crossed the center line and then over-corrected. The car then spun out of control and crashed backwards into a large tree, according to the police report filed.
According to the report, 19-year old Joseph Andrew Sciascia, of Harrisburg, was sitting in the back seat when police say the car slammed into the tree on his side of the vehicle. Sciascia was killed….MORE

The driver of the car, 19-year-old Dillon Scott Rogers, was in critical condition Friday morning. He’s facing charges that include driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle.
Another passenger in the car, Michael Scott Magee, 20, was treated and released.
The wreck happened at 1:40 a.m. in the 3700 block of Back Creek Church Road, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

(Feb. 19, 2011) — Police say a Charlotte man was driving under the influence when he ran off a freeway entrance ramp and struck a storm drain, flipping his vehicle and leaving one of his passengers seriously hurt. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reports that 20-year-old Michael Scott Magee of Charlotte was attempting to merge onto southbound North Carolina Route 49 from Warren C. Coleman Boulevard in a 2001 Ford pickup truck around 10:17 p.m. when he lost control. The pickup ran off the left shoulder onto a grassy area, where it hit the storm drain and flipped twice before landing on North Carolina Route 49 on its wheels. Tim Michael West, 21, of Concord, was riding in the passenger’s seat and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Northeast Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Magee suffered minor injuries, while a second passenger, 19-year-old Joseph Andrew Sciascia of Harrisburg, fled the scene and was later found in the 800 block of Summerlake Drive. Officers at the scene detected the presence of alcohol on Mr. Magee and subjected him to a breath-alcohol test. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired. Mr. Sciascia was cited for leaving the scene.
