North Carolina: Marine pilot busted from post as CO of Marine base after DWI; awaits trial

BEAUFORT — A driving while impaired case involving a former Cherry Point air station commander has been continued until March. 
Marine Col. Douglas A. Denn was scheduled to be in Carteret County District Court Wednesday on the DWI and related charges. A continuance was granted during the court session, moving Denn’s next court date to March 23.  The continuance is the second for Denn, whose initial court date was in December.  Denn, 47, faces charges of driving while impaired, driving with an open container and speeding following his Oct. 25 arrest by Newport Police Department. According to the citation, police stopped Denn on U.S. 70 near the intersection of Carl Garner Road after he was clocked driving a Saab at 67 mph in a 55 mph zone.    MORE
