Daniel Troy Johnson and his two passengers ran from wreck like cowards as their victims lay dying
Double Traffic Fatality on Southeast Gladstone Street
According to Portland Oregon Police, the two people killed on March 9, 2013, during a traffic crash at Southeast 28th Place and Gladstone Street, have been identified as 55-year-old Paul Lawrence Knepper (driver) and his mother, 90-year-old Hazel Agnes Knepper. Both died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the other car, 29-year-old Daniel Troy Johnson, was located by police at Southeast 29th Avenue and Powell Boulevard where he was taken into custody.
Investigators learned that a gold 2000 Cadillac Escalade SUV, driven by Johnson, was traveling northbound on 28th Place and drove through a stop sign at Gladstone, striking the eastbound white 2000 Toyota Corolla 4-door, driven by Knepper.
Johnson and two as-yet-unidentified passengers ran on foot from the crash scene. A fourth occupant, 28-year-old Benjamin Chase Arce, and a dog remained in the SUV. Arce was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries. The dog was taken by Multnomah County Animal Control.
Johnson will be charged with two counts of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Felony Hit and Run, Assault in the Fourth Degree, and DUII. He will be booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Monday March 11, 2013.
Police say that it appears that both speed and alcohol contributed to this fatal crash. These are the 10th and 11th traffic fatalities of 2013.
Anyone with information on the other two passengers is asked to contact Officer Pete Kurronen at (503) 823-2208.
