Another “victimless crime”

Randall and Barbara Starr hit headon by DUI drug driver Scott Cook

According to Trooper Tiffany Lynn, on April 24, 2015 at 9:48am a two vehicle serious injury crash occurred on SR HWY 226 near Milepost (MP) 8.5 (near Scio). Unit #1, a 1995 Honda Accord, driven by Scott Cook was eastbound on Hwy 226 when it crossed the centerline and collided with Unit #2 a westbound Itasca Sunriver Motorhome. Unit #2 was driven by Mr. Randall Starr (age 76) with his wife, Mrs. Barbara Starr (age 77) as the right front passenger. Both Mr. Cook and the Starrs are residents of Scio.

After the head-on collision, the motorhome came to rest off the roadway and the Honda Accord came to rest on the shoulder of the eastbound lane. It is unknown if  Cook was wearing a seatbelt but the Starrs were properly restrained. Airbags deployed in the Honda Accord. Police say that Cook was taken to Salem Hospital via Lifeflight with serious injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Starr sustained minor injuries.

Cook has been cited and released for DUII-Controlled Substances and Reckless Driving.

OSP was assisted by Scio and Lebanon Fire Departments, Linn County Sheriff’s Department, Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), and the Linn County District Attorney’s Office. The two lane highway was completely closed for approximately three hours and then one lane was open for an additional 2 hours before the highway was cleared.
