Acevedo charged with DUI homicide; killed his passenger in triple rollover
On November 28, shortly before 4:00 P.M. Yamhill County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Burns Road and Brown Road in the community of Whiteson.
Deputies arrived on scene and discovered a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier in the ditch. The vehicle had crashed with two occupants. The driver, identified as Jose Manuel Acevedo, 42 of McMinnville was assisted from the vehicle by a witness. The lone passenger, identified as Maria Edith Naranjo Chavez, 48, of McMinnville died on scene as a result of the crash.
The initial investigation indicated the vehicle had been driving northbound on Burns Road when it lost control and entered the ditch, rolling over an estimated 3 times. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
Acevedo was arrested on criminal charges related to the incident. He is currently being held at the Yamhill County Jail on one count each of DUII and Criminal Negligent Homicide with a bail of $155,000.
The case remains open and under investigation by the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office and the Multi Agency Traffic Team (M.A.T.T.). Anyone with information on this crash is urged to contact Deputy Rebecca Mayer at 503-434-7506 or mayerb@co.yamhill.or.us.
