BARRINGTON — The Barrington police say that the former president of the Providence firefighters union demanded “professional courtesy” and help from the state police superintendent during his drunken-driving arrest.

Stephen T. Day, 57, was stopped on Aug. 23, after an officer saw his Audi swerving on the Wampanoag Trail.
Day performed poorly on the field-sobriety tests, the police said.
