UPDATED: State Police Arrest MA Driver for DUI After Wrong-Way Crash Injures Four People on Rte. 146 Early Saturday

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A Worcester, MA, man was arrested by Rhode Island State Police and charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving after a wrong-way crash on Route 146 in which four people were seriously injured at approximately 3 a.m. today.

Aleksandro Mihali, 22, of 4 Zenith Drive, Worcester, was charged with three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs resulting in serious bodily injury, as well as reckless driving, according to Capt. Matthew Moynihan.

At 2:56 AM, Troopers arrested Aleksandro Mihali, age 22, of 4 Zenith Drive, Worcester, MA for 1.) Driving Under the Influence 1st Offense BAC Unknown (blood results pending) – Resulting in Personal Injury (3 Counts) and 2.) Reckless Driving. The arrest was the result of investigating a head-on collision on Route 146 North in the Town of North Smithfield. The subject was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation showed that Mihali was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Route 146 as he entered Rhode Island from Massachusetts, Moynihan said. While traveling in the wrong direction in the high-speed lane, his car, a 1987 Cadillac, collided head-on with a Honda Accord approximately 800 feet south of the state line.

The Accord was traveling north in the high-speed lane at the time of the crash, Moynihan said. The driver, Gabriela Reyes, 19, of 11 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Boston, and a passenger in her car, Sonia Sandy, 21, of 6 Arthur St., Worcester, were both transported by local rescue squads to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

Mihali and a passenger in his car, identified as Poliana Kristani, 23, also of 4 Zenith Dr., Worcester, also were taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

 

 

The crash remains under investigation by members of the Rhode Island State Police, North Smithfield Police, Rhode Island State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Rhode Island State Police Forensic Services Unit.

Kenneth Mitchell No Show on DUI Charge; Now He’s Showing Up in Jail

On April 27, 2017, Rhode Island State Police report that at 12:03 AM Troopers arrested Kenneth Mitchell, age 34, of 86 Oakside Street, Warwick, Rhode Island on a Third District Court Bench Warrant, Failure to Appear for Pretrial Conference on the original charge of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Alcohol and Toluene originating out of the Warwick Police Department. The arrest was the result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 3 in the Town of West Greenwich. The subject was transported to the Hope Valley Barracks, processed and transported to the Adult Correctional Institute- Men’s Intake.
