CRANSTON, R.I. – A Cranston man pleaded no contest to charges in connection with the fatal drunken driving crash in 2012 that killed his passenger.

Zachary Kahan, 24, was sentenced to 10 years with three to serve and the remainder suspended with probation. He was fined $5,000, ordered to complete alcohol counseling, and pay restitution for medical expenses. He will also lose his license for five years after he’s released from prison.

On Sept. 8, Kahan and 24-year-old Tanya Chabot, of Burrillville, left a wedding together and were traveling along Moonstone Beach Road in South Kingstown where his car left the road and struck a telephone pole.
