SOUTH CAROLINA – Brandon Earwood charged with felony DUI after killing Willie Brown Jr. in head-on crash

Brandon Earwood charged with felony DUI in head-on crash that killed Willie Brown Jr. of Walterboro on Feb. 9, 2019 . Dorchester County Jail.

WALTERBORO, SC. – South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Cpl. Judd Jones reports that on Feb. 9, 2019, at about 4:17 am., Willie Louis Brown Jr., 53, of Walterboro, South Carolina, was killed and pronounced dead on the scene when his SUV was hit head-on by a GMC pickup on SC 61 near Hunter Haven Blvd., west of Summerville.

Brandon Earwood, 26, was not wearing a seatbelt while operating a GMC North hit vehicle one in the southbound lane before hitting the victim’s vehicle head-on, said Cpl. Jones. Earwood was treated for minor injuries and arrested on charges of felony DUI after being released from a hospital. Police say he was booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center.

Brown worked at the Ralph Johnson VA hospital.

The VA Hospital issued this statement regarding Willie Brown Jr’s death:
