SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol said it arrested a Westminster man who caused a five-car crash that killed two people in Seneca on Saturday night.

  • Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said two people were killed in a five-car accident in Seneca on Saturday night.

    According to Addis, Michele Silvers was driving at the time of the crash.  He said she was taken to Oconee Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. Addis said Joshua Silvers was thrown from the passengers seat.  He died on the scene.

    Troopers said five other people were also hurt in the wreck.  According to Highway Patrol, one victim was airlifted to Greenville Memorial, and the rest were transported by ambulance to Oconee Medical Center.

    Addis said the accident happened at the intersection of Wells Highway and Sheep Farm Road around 7:45 p.m.

    According to Addis, Michele and Joshua Silvers appeared to be in Oconee County painting at a job site.  He said they were traveling together from Sheep Farm Road across Sandifer Boulevard onto Wells Highway when their car was broad sided by a pickup truck traveling east on Sandifer Boulevard. Addis said the other cars crashed after the initial impact.

    Exams will be conducted on Michele and Joshua Silvers on Monday to document their injuries from the crash.

    Highway Patrol shut down the intersection while troopers investigated.  The crash remains under investigation by Highway Patrol.

    According to troopers, 52-year-old Drew Greene broadsided a car at the intersection of Wells Highway and Sheep Farm Road around 7:45 p.m., killing the driver and a passenger.

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis identified the victims as Michele Silvers, 28, and her husband Joshua Silvers, 29, of Iva.

Troopers said Greene blew through the red light, smashing into the Silvers’ car before three more cars were involved in the wreck.

According to Addis, Michele Silvers was driving at the time of the crash. He said she was taken to Oconee Medical Center, where she died from neck trauma due to blunt force trauma. Addis said Joshua Silvers was thrown from the passenger seat. He died on the scene from head and neck trauma.

Addis said the other cars crashed after the initial impact, and troopers said five other people were also hurt in the wreck. According to Highway Patrol, one victim was airlifted to Greenville Memorial, and the rest were transported by ambulance to Oconee Medical Center.

One woman who witnessed the accident said she saw Greene’s truck speed past her on U.S. 123 as she was stopped at the red light.
