Police say a Nissan Xterra, driven by James Allen Jeffers, 33, of South Beloit, was traveling westbound on the bridge, crossed the median, and crashed head-on into a Chevy Malibu, driven by Alex Banks, 25, of Rockford. A passenger was also in the Malibu, Tanisha Gates, 23, of Rockford.

Jose Vega, who suffered serious injuries in the crash, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics and then transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was admitted. Troopers have obtained warrants charging Vega with Vehicular Assault 1st Degree, Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving without an Operator’s License, No Motor Vehicle Insurance, and several other traffic offenses.

Easton Police report that on November 1, 2015 Brian Andrew Wood, 41, of Easton, MD was charged on traffic citations with failing to stop at a stop line, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol and negligent driving.

Instead of pulling over, the driver – later identified as 36 year old Barry Pieger, continued on, failing to stop. He finally turned off the road into the Looe Key Tiki Bar parking lot. He drove through the lot and stopped just short of the Shell gas station on Ramrod Key.

Initial investigation indicates Werner crossed the double yellow line heading West on Lower Newton Road, causing a head on crash with the vehicle operated by Martin. Werner was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol as well as grossly negligent operation.
