Texas: no refusal meant automatic trip to jail for DWI drivers in Austin; 73 had their Fourth picnics behind bars

AUSTIN – Austin police took 73 people to jail during the Fourth of July weekend on driving while intoxicated charges. That’s nearly triple the number of arrests during last year’s “No-Refusal” Independence Day weekend.
However, in 2010, Austin Police Department only implemented the “no-refusal” policy for one day. This year, mandatory blood and breath tests were done for the entire 4-day weekend as a part of the first state-wide no refusal effort. ….MORE
