Texas: Three Carrollton Police Officer Injured by DWI Drivers in Two Days

Photo: UPDATE: At approximately 6:00 a.m. this morning, three Carrollton PD officers in two separate patrol cars were stopped on a DWI investigation traffic stop in the 2500 blk of IH-35E N NB at the President George Bush Turnpike.

While in the process of arresting the driver for DWI and placing him in the rear seat of one of the patrol vehicles, Carrollton 911 dispatchers received a second call from a citizen about a possibly intoxicated driver in a black sedan also traveling northbound on IH-35E N. Shortly after receiving the 911 call, the officers' patrol car that held the arrested person was struck from behind by the black sedan. Two of the officers and both vehicle drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment. Both officers have been released from the hospital after being treated for their injuries. Both suspects are expected to be released from the hospital. Charges for the driver of the black sedan are pending after the full extent of injuries are documented and the investigation is complete.

We would like to thank the public for the outpouring of well wishes and prayers for our officers. This makes three Carrollton PD officers involved in collisions with intoxicated drivers in less than 36 hours. We hope that this highlights the true dangers of drinking and driving as well as the dangers that our officers face on a daily basis. While many of our citizens are waking up on a Sunday morning at 6 a.m., heading to work, church, or going for a run, our officers remain vigilant in their hunt for intoxicated drivers, even while others may not expect it.
