MILLVILLE, UTAH — The Cache County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a second person in connection with the DUI crash April 10 that killed Caffe Ibis co-owner Randy Wirth.
According to Cache County Attorney James Swink, 42-year-old Michelle Hoppie was arrested on Friday and booked into the Cache County Jail. Swink said Hoppie has been charged with second-degree felony automobile homicide for allegedly encouraging Alvin Henson to get behind the wheel of the vehicle to go buy more beer.
She has also been charged with tampering with an ignition interlock device by furnishing Henson with her truck to drive. ….MORE

Motorcyclist died at trauma unit

Millville, Utah – 2014-04-12—  According to Cache County, Utah Sheriff’s deputies, just after 7:30 pm on April 10, 2014, deputies responded to a three vehicle accident at 140 West 200 South in Millville, Utah. The accident involved a pickup truck, a passenger car, and a motorcycle.

Investigation and witness statements have revealed that 40-year old Alvin Henson of Millville was driving a 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup eastbound on 200 South in Millville, with passenger 29-year old Brian Schofield of Logan.

Witnesses state Henson was driving very erratically and lost control of his vehicle which crossed into the westbound lane striking a 1999 Cadillac DeVille being driven by 51-year old Clay Wilker of Millville who was driving the opposite direction of Henson.

Somehow, a 1978 Suzuki motorcycle driven by 67-year old Randolph Wirth of Millville was also struck in the accident. None of the witnesses or any of the drivers saw the motorcycle and it is still unclear where the motorcycle was in relation to the other vehicles. Deputies on scene immediately recognized evidence of alcohol use with Alvin Henson and Brian Schofield. The case is being investigated as a DUI incident.

The driver of the motorcycle, Randolph Wirth, was significantly injured in the accident. He was transported to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance, and then transported by Life Flight helicopter to McKay Dee Hospital where he has been listed in extremely serious condition. Alvin Henson and Brian Schofield were transported to Logan Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Clay Wilker and his juvenile passenger were not injured in the accident.

Alvin Henson was released from the hospital and was immediately taken into custody. He has been booked into the Cache County Jail, and his charges include DUI (2nd degree felony), driving on alcohol restriction (B misdemeanor), and failure to install an interlock device (B misdemeanor). Mr. Henson has prior DUI arrests in his history.

The Sheriff’s Office has been in consultation with the Cache County Attorney’s Office and the incident is still under investigation. Future or amended charges may be forthcoming for Mr. Henson.
