Virginia Road crews plow snow Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office

Gloucester, Va. 02/19/2015 —  One man is dead and another under arrest for DUI after a head-on crash in Gloucester County Virginia.  According to Sgt. Michelle Ayana of the Virginia State Police, at approximately 4:01 pm on Feb. 17, 2015, Virginia State Police was called to investigate a two vehicle accident which occurred on Guinea Road east of Route 17, in Gloucester County.

A 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Guinea Road when it crossed over the center line striking a 2007 Jeep Laredo head on. The driver of the Jeep Laredo, Margarita Bartok, was flown by Nightingale to Riverside Regional Hospital. Her passenger, Stephen Bartok, was not wearing his safety belt, and died at the scene.

The driver of the 2011 Chevy Silverado, John David Akamo, DOB of 07/1985, of the 10000 block of Maryus Road, Hayes, Virginia, was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI 2nd offense and Involuntary Manslaughter.

Traffic on Guinea Road was shut down both east and westbound from the time of the accident, 4:01 pm, and reopened at 6:40 pm.

Notification has been made to family members.

 Deceased : Stephen Bartok, DOB of 6/1936, of the 3200 block of Friends Road, Hayes, Virginia.
