WASHINGTON, D.C.: United States Capitol Police report DUI arrests; one drunk driver crashed into a security barrier, another parked on sidewalk

ADDITIONAL CHARGES: TRAFFIC- PERMIT – OPERATING AFTER SUSPENSION The United States Capitol Police say that a reporting officer observed a vehicle parked on the sidewalk at the intersection of First and D Streets, NE.

Police say that upon approach, the reporting officer observed the suspect standing next to the driver’s side door of the vehicle.

While speaking with the Suspect, the reporting officer observed signs of impairment. A WALES/NCIC check of the suspect’s District of Columbia license revealed their permit was suspended. Field sobriety tests were conducted and, due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the United States Capitol Police Headquarters for processing.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES: POSSESSION OF OPEN CONTAINER OF ALCOHOL; DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY LESS THAN $1000
The reporting officer responded to a traffic accident at First Street and Maryland Avenue, SW, where the Suspect struck a barrier. Upon approaching the vehicle, a second U.S. Capitol Police Officer observed an open container of alcohol in the front passenger seat.

Capitol Police say that standard field sobriety tests were conducted and, due to numerous signs of impairment, the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to USCP Headquarters for processing.
