Washington State Patrol Trooper B. Beattie reports that alcohol was a play in a fatal crash on northbound 15 two miles south of Lakewood in Pierce County.

The crash took place when Spencer A. Maar, 23, of Tacoma, Washington, left the roadway and hit a 1987 BMW which had been left on the shoulder of the highway and then his 1991 Toyota ended up in the roadway. Two more northbound vehicles then struck the Toyota and a fifth vehicle, a black Ford Escape, hit debris in the roadway and then struck a guardrail.

A passenger in the Toyota, driven by Maar, which caused the demolition derby, was killed in the wreckage. Dead was Dominic C. Bryant, 23, of Tacoma. The next of kin were notified by Tacoma Police Chaplin.

Vehicular homicide charges are pending against Maar for the fatality of the passenger in his vehicle in the 2:51 am crash on April 9, 2016.
