Three Dead in Crash When Accused DUI Drug Dealer Montrell Red Blasted Over Four Lanes of I-5

Washington State Patrol reports that Trooper D. Knox arrived at the scene of a triple-fatal crash on I-5 at New York Ave., near milepost 125 at 2:14 am on March 8, 2018.

Arrested and charged with DWI was Montrell Tormel Red, 23, of Tacoma, Washington.  Police say that Red was operating a 2002 Nissan Maxima southbound in lane one of four lanes when he crossed all four lanes and struck a 1999 Honda CRV SUV and killed the driver, Jaime V. Pelayo, 30, of Kelso, Wash. The next of kin were notified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner, reports the police.

After Red slammed into the Honda, police say that his Nissan struck the Jersey barrier and the New York Avenue overpass pillars, rolled over and came to rest upside down in lanes three and four. The engine from the Honda was wrenched loose from the vehicle and came to rest in the left land of northbound I5.

Two passengers in the Honda were killed. The next of kin of one of those killed has been notified and police have now identified Sherry R. Rodriguez, 44, of Kelso. The identity of the 51-year-old male passenger killed by Red’s wild driving is being withheld until his next of kin have been notified.

As often is the case with impaired drivers, Red was not injured and was booked into the Pierce County Jail on charges of DUI, felony hit and run, vehicular homicide, possession of drugs, possession of a stolen gun and possession of pot with the intent to distribute.

Red fled and was tracked by an off-duty police dispatcher who fingered him for the cops.
