Turning interstate highway into pinball machine ended with trip to hospital for James Bower; DUI charges pending

Washington State Patrol Trooper R. Lamay reports that on Dec. 2, 2016, at 1:28 pm at a location on I-82 36 miles from Union Gap in Yakima County, Washington, that a black 1996 Ford Explorer SUV operated by James Dirk Bower, 56, of Zillah, Wash., was totaled when it hit a guardrail and then struck a tractor-trailer operated by Vadim Tikhonov, 24, of Bellingham, Wash.  Drugs or alcohol are involved and charges are pending, say police. Bower was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. The truck driver was not injured.
